Overview

This lecture-only module provides an introductory survey of the history of the Greek and Roman world, from the Greek Archaic age (c.700 BC) to the death of Augustus in AD 14. The main trends and issues of this period will be explored including colonisation, imperialism, war, the Athenian invention of democracy, the rise of Alexander, and the emergence of Rome as a major power in the Mediterranean. There will also be discussion of the main historical sources. Lecturers: Dr Rebecca Usherwood.

Date, Time, and Place

Day-time course: Time and venue to be confirmed. Whether these lectures will be in person or online will depend on the situation with COVID 19 later in the year. If online, lectures may be pre-recorded and made available at the time the lectures should be scheduled, or they may be live on Zoom. Live lectures are not necessarily recorded, so you may have to attend at the time stated.

Duration

This lecture-only module comprises of two lectures per week over one term commencing in January 2022.

Course Fees

€150 for the course. The concession rate for the course is €75.* * The concession rate is available to second and third level students and people whose primary source of income is a Social Welfare pension or payment, Jobseekers, Health Board or a government-sponsored employment scheme.
