A groundbreaking joint venture in the field of Molecular Medicine Research has been announced by University College Dublin and Trinity College Dublin. The Dublin Molecular Medicine Centre is set to become a world class centre of excellence in its field. It has successfully competed for substantial funding under the Government’s Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions, which is administered by the HEA. The Centre will build on a number of existing strengths in related research fields within the two largest universities in Ireland, UCD and TCD. It represents by far the most substantial co-operation yet in research between the two institutions.
The joint venture agreement was signed on behalf of Trinity College Dublin by the Provost, Dr John Hegarty, on behalf of University College Dublin by the President, Dr Art Cosgrove and on behalf of the new joint venture company, the Dublin Molecular Medicine Centre by Chairman of the Board, Mr Kieran McGowan. The event took place in Newman House and Chairman of the Higher Education Authority, Dr Don Thornhill was present at the signing.
