Three Services, One Mission: Supporting Student Success

Posted on: 15 August 2016

Trinity’s Counselling, Student 2 Student, and Student Learning Development services exist to help all Trinity students look after their mental health and wellness. Wellness is a holistic concept involving social, intellectual, emotional, physical, sexual, cultural, occupational, spiritual, financial, and environmental dimensions. Each year over a third of the Trinity student body use these three free services to support their wellness.

  • Student 2 Student (S2S): All first year undergraduate students join S2S Mentoring Groups, which are led by more senior Trinity students trained by S2S. This is a great way to make a smooth transition to Trinity, build up a social network, and get answers about how Trinity works. Students can also meet individually with an S2S-trained Peer Supporter, a fellow Trinity student who can offer social support and advice;
  • Student Learning Development: This service offers a range of workshops, one-to-one consults, and online resources aimed at improving academic skills, maximising studies and providing key transitional skills for life after College;
  • Counselling: Students can consult the professional counselling team who have expertise in student mental health. They provide confidential online, group, and one-to-one supports. They can also suggest external referrals for students needing longer-term support.

All of these services are founded on the values of diversity, inclusion, acceptance, and compassion. ‘ They welcome all Trinity students irrespective of age, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, gender identity and expression, marital or family status, religion, ethnicity or culture.’

This services are part of the Trinity Corporate Services Division, working in concert with Trinity’s broader Student Services to touch the full spectrum of wellness domains and support student retention and success. These broader services include professional supports like the Careers Advisory Service, The College Disability Service, Trinity Sport, The College Health Service, TCD Chaplaincy, The Senior Tutor’s Office/Postgrad Advisory Service and Academic Registry.

No matter who you are or what your situation is, these three services are here to support all students!
