The Columbia University economist and United Nations advisor, Dr Jeffrey Sachs, was among five recipients who received honorary degrees from Trinity College on July 7 last. Dr Sachs is director of the UN Millennium Project and special advisor to the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan. The former professor at the London Business School, Charles Handy and a prolific author and broadcaster on management issues also received an honorary degree. Other recipients included the former Secretary General of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Paul Haran; the leading Irish jurist, Maureen Harding Clark and world leading scholar in speech acoustics, Professor Gunnar Fant, of the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.
